Job Summary Under general supervision, the Medical Lab Scientist performs quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens in accordance with standard laboratory protocols. Responsibilities include analyzing test results, preparing samples, calculating findings, maintaining records, and preparing solutions, reagents, media, stains, and other materials used in testing.
The position also involves processing all specimen types, reviewing and reporting results, maintaining laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting equipment, and acting as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training defined by §42 CFR 493.1489. This meets the required criteria for high‑complexity testing under CLIA regulations.
Prefer 6 months to 1 year experience as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute‑care facility.
Required: Registered or registry‑eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire. For non‑U.S. trained personnel, equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES, or AICE must be Miami completed within 30 days of hire. Licensure required by state.

Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate laboratory equipment.
Visual acuity to closely examine specimens.
Facility Description DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional integrated laboratory system serving the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, the laboratory includes core laboratories, specialty laboratories, twoาวิ rapid‑response hospital laboratories, a centralized stat lab, a centralized blood bank lab, and a full‑service outreach infrastructure. The facility offers a test menu of over 1,000 tests, including high‑end specialty tests, and less than 1 % of its tests are sent to outside reference laboratories. The laboratory also provides reference laboratory services to many other healthcare systems in southeastern Michigan and several out‑of‑state facilities.
