Accounting Manager

to strengthen our financial operations and ensure the integrity of company financials.

Position Overview The

Accounting Manager

oversees the daily accounting operations of Reed Building Supply, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all financial processes. This position will supervise accounting staff, manage the general ledger, produce financial reports, and play a critical role in budgeting, forecasting, audits, and enforcement of internal controls. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, advanced accounting knowledge, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced construction supply environment.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules for accuracy and compliance.

Analyze financial performance, identify variances, and present findings and recommendations to senior management.

Ensure the general ledger is maintained accurately and aligns with GAAP and company policies.

Reconcile and maintain intercompany ledgers.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Oversight

Supervise AP/AR processing, approvals, and reconciliations.

Implement best practices for vendor management, customer credit, and cash application.

Monitor aging reports and lead efforts to improve collections and optimize cash flow.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead the annual budget process in collaboration with the Controller/CFO.

Develop rolling forecasts and provide financial insights that support operational and strategic decision‑making.

Track budget‑to‑actual performance and communicate variances to leadership.

Internal Controls & Compliance

Strengthen and maintain internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance.

Update policies and procedures to support accuracy and operational efficiency.

Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations; coordinate with external tax advisors when needed.

Audit Management

Serve as the primary point of contact for external and internal auditors.

Prepare required audit documentation, schedules, and reconciliations.

Address inquiries and ensure timely completion of all audit activities.

Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff.

Assign workloads, set performance expectations, and conduct evaluations.

Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing department culture.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner with operations, sales, procurement, and leadership to support accurate financial processes.

Provide financial guidance on purchasing decisions, inventory management, and operational initiatives.

Communicate financial information clearly to non‑finance stakeholders.

Systems & Process Improvement

Optimize accounting workflows and implement process improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency.

Support system upgrades or transitions in accounting software or operational platforms.

Ensure data integrity and enhance reporting capabilities for decision‑makers.

Other Duties

Perform or oversee special projects, ad‑hoc analyses, and operational initiatives as assigned.

Assist leadership in making informed, financially sound strategic decisions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience; prior supervisory/managerial experience strongly preferred.

Experience in construction, distribution, or manufacturing industry is a plus.

Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.

Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, or comparable systems) and advanced Excel skills.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner cross‑functionally.
