About the Role
The Company is seeking an Executive Director for a national, network-based climate initiative. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a collaborative effort to align and activate state and local climate leadership, with a focus on engaging governors, mayors, and senior partners across various sectors. This role is pivotal in shaping how subnational leaders in the U.S. interact both domestically and internationally, and it involves building a coalition through strategic partnerships with global allies. The Executive Director will be at the forefront of strategy, coalition-building, and organizational leadership, setting the direction, and ensuring the team is high-performing and advancing coordinated action in a complex political landscape.
The ideal candidate will have a background that includes deep familiarity with state government and/or mayoral leadership, strong relational credibility with senior leaders and funders, and experience in working with large coalitions or networks. This position is not for a policy technician, but rather for a politically savvy, low-ego leader who can navigate ambiguity, synthesize complex information, and effectively translate strategy into action. Experience in climate-related work is essential, and a preference is given to those with international engagement experience. The role demands a leader who can operate at the intersection of strategy, politics, and action, and who is committed to advancing the mission of the initiative.
