Corporate Controller (GovCon) — PE‑Backed Growth Environment
Location: Hampton Roads / Virginia Beach area
Work Style: On‑site with flexibility (manager‑level leadership presence required)
Compensation: $175,000–$225,000 base + 10–20% bonus (higher possible for exceptional fit)
Clearance: Eligible for DoD Secret (not required at start)
About the Role A PE‑backed government contractor is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead a multi‑manager accounting organization and partner closely with executive leadership. The company is expanding and actively engaged in process improvement and acquisitions, so we’re looking for a decisive change‑agent who can elevate controls, streamline operations, and strengthen compliance in a Deltek Costpoint environment.
Key Responsibilities GovCon Accounting & Compliance
Own compliance with FAR/DFARS/CAS/DCAA across accounting processes and systems.
Lead indirect rates (development, monitoring, budgeting) and the annual Incurred Cost Submission (ICS).
Maintain job cost accounting and ensure billing practices align with contract type (e.g., WAWF, progress payments).
Serve as primary contact for DCAA audits, government inquiries, and systems reviews (Accounting, Billing, Timekeeping).
Ensure compliant timekeeping, labor charging, and payroll integration.
Financial Operations & Reporting
Oversee daily accounting operations (AP, AR, GL, cash management, payroll interface).
Drive close cycles with emphasis on job cost accuracy, cutoff, and contract performance.
Produce timely, accurate GAAP and government‑compliant statements, schedules, and disclosures.
Maintain scalable internal controls and audit readiness aligned to GovCon expectations.
Build standardized dashboards/KPIs for leadership (contract margins, indirect rate trends, cash forecasting).
Systems Leadership (Deltek Costpoint)
Act as organizational owner of Costpoint configuration and integrity.
Push automation, workflow enhancements, and integrations to increase scalability and audit traceability.
Strengthen segregation of duties and documentation within Costpoint.
Strategic Finance
Lead cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital strategies tailored to GovCon cycles.
Support M&A due diligence and integration, including post‑deal accounting harmonization and cost structure alignment.
Coordinate timely reporting and support for audit, tax, and regulatory engagements.
Team Leadership
Mentor and develop a high‑performing accounting team (multi‑manager, double‑digit staff).
Champion accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence; train business users on labor charging, cost accounting, and audit readiness.
Qualifications
15+ years
progressive finance/accounting experience with
10+ years
leading in
GovCon .
Proven success owning the full accounting function in high‑growth, multi‑contract settings.
CPA strongly preferred
(exceptional non‑CPA talent welcomed).
Deep technical expertise in
GAAP, FAR, DFARS, CAS , and federal contracting compliance.
Advanced proficiency with
Deltek Costpoint
(modules, reporting, controls).
Executive‑level partnership skills; decisive leader who drives process efficiency and scalable infrastructure.
Nice‑to‑Have
5+ years
in managerial accounting roles.
Experience navigating
PE‑backed
scaling and/or
post‑acquisition
integration.
Familiarity with WAWF/progress payments and
