Join our team as an Equipment Operator, Pipe Layer or Grade Checker and play a vital role in our construction projects. We are seeking 3 skilled individuals to fill each of these roles: experienced in heavy equipment operation, pipe laying or grade checking. These skilled individuals will be responsible for operating various equipment such as excavators, dozers, dig pipe, finish grade and more to support our construction activities. 1. Experienced Equipment Operator Position Summary The Experienced Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment in support of civil site development projects, including earthwork, utilities, and grading.

Key Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, compactors, and skid steers

Perform mass excavation, fine grading, trenching, and backfill operations

Follow grade stakes, laser levels, or verbal instructions

Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance

Work closely with foremen, grade checkers, and laborers

Maintain a safe and productive jobsite

Assist with other site tasks as needed

Qualifications

Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in civil construction

Strong understanding of site development and earthwork operations

Ability to work safely around underground utilities and other crews

Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused

Valid driver’s license

2. Experienced Pipe Layer Position Summary The Experienced Pipe Layer is responsible for installing underground utility systems including storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water lines in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Install storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water mains

Set and align pipe using lasers, levels, and grade stakes

Prepare trenches, bedding, and backfill materials

Install manholes, catch basins, structures, and fittings

Ensure proper slope, alignment, and compaction

Work safely in trenches and around heavy equipment

Communicate with operators, foremen, and inspectors

Maintain clean and safe work areas

Qualifications

Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a pipe layer in civil construction

Strong knowledge of underground utility installation methods

Ability to read and interpret plans, grades, and cut sheets

Knowledge of OSHA trench safety requirements

Physically capable of performing manual labor in outdoor conditions

Reliable and detail-oriented

3. Experienced Grade Checker Position Summary The Experienced Grade Checker is responsible for verifying and maintaining proper grades and elevations on civil construction projects to ensure work meets design specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Check and verify grades for excavation, utilities, roadways, and fine grading

Set and maintain grade stakes, hubs, and benchmarks

Use surveying equipment including lasers and levels

Communicate grade information clearly to equipment operators and foremen

Monitor work for accuracy and conformance to plans

Assist with layout for utilities, curbs, and structures

Maintain accurate field notes and measurements

Ensure work is completed efficiently and correctly

Qualifications

Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a grade checker in civil construction

Strong understanding of site plans, profiles, and elevations

Proficient with lasers, and surveying tools

High attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Valid driver’s license

R&O’s civil group builds both private and public works projects that are typically located in the greater Vancouver and Portland areas. These positions are full-time, Monday - Friday with overtime opportunities. Pre-Employment drug screening will apply.
