Person County Government is seeking a dependable and hardworking Full-Time Grounds Maintenance Worker to join the General Services Department. This position is essential to maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of County-owned properties and grounds, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment for employees and the public.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep of County grounds. Work may include mowing, trimming, landscaping, debris removal, minor repairs, and routine maintenance of outdoor areas. Duties may require the use of hand tools, power tools, and grounds maintenance equipment, as well as physical labor performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
This position works under general supervision and is expected to independently plan and carry out work methods and sequences to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
This is a non-exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work as necessary.
Mows lawns; trims and edges around walkways, flower beds and fences; operates and maintains lawn mowers, bush hogs, tractors and some power and hand tools; aerates and reseeds lawns.
Plants trees, bushes, shrubs, grasses and other plants; prunes trees and fertilizes.
Maintains, by way of pruning, weeding, irrigating and cutting, fertilizing, etc.: trees, bushes, shrubs, grasses and other plants.
Operates dump trucks and front-end loaders to spread gravel.
Installs and repairs fencing.
Pours concrete to repair sidewalks, create slabs, and for other needs.
Paints and stripes on parking lots.
Loads plants, trees and shrubbery on trucks for transport.
Prepares and distributes mulch.
Keep streets, roads and pathways clean and free of natural debris.
Puts down ice melt and keeps steps, sidewalks, and parking lots clear of snow and ice.
Operates light to medium sized motorized equipment.
Makes minor repairs and performs preventative maintenance to motorized equipment.
Operates a variety of hand and specialty tools associated with the landscaping trade fields.
Sprays pesticides and chemicals under direction and guidance of a certified applicator.
Completes time sheets, material sheets, and basic activity reports.
Performs related work as assigned.
High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
One (1) year of ground maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
