Purpose and Scope Under the supervision of the principal, the teacher is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the grades or classes assigned; develops and implements an instructional program according to the needs of the students and the established Diocesan Curriculum Standards; maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school; establishes positive school-community relationships; continues professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications; performs any other job‑related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal.

Essential Job Functions

Embrace and model the Catholic philosophy of education; promote and live gospel values and Catholic moral teaching; uphold the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church; provide opportunities for faith development of students in the classroom; articulate and give evidence of Catholic living by example.

Provide a positive learning environment; organize the classroom to facilitate student learning; supervise and ensure the safety, welfare, and care of the students while they are in school; create a Catholic community within the classroom and the entire school community; teach in accordance with diocesan and local policies as well as appropriate laws; show respect for individuals and fairness in dealing with students and parents; develop and implement a daily and weekly schedule covering all areas of curriculum.

Integrate the Church’s teachings in all aspects of the curriculum; determine levels of student achievement; use appropriate teaching strategies to meet individual student needs; use resources available to promote learning experiences for all students; incorporate a variety of instructional strategies and technology into instruction; refer students for evaluation and consultation when necessary in collaboration with administration and parents; include all students in presentation and discussions.

Evaluates Student Progress Effectively

Use a variety of ongoing assessments.

Align assessments with goals, objectives, information taught, and instructional guidelines and Curriculum Standards of the Diocese and school.

Provide prompt constructive feedback on student work and performance.

Maintain a proper grading and/or reporting system for each student as required by the principal.

Meet deadlines with official classroom, attendance, and statistics as required by the principal.

Maintain daily lesson plans.

Establishes Positive School‑Community Relationships

Maintain cooperative relations with all members of the school community.

Promote respectful and positive school relationships.

Maintain awareness of the role as a Catholic schoolteacher and its impact on the community.

Provide for regular conferences and meetings with parents.

Cooperate with and help promote various curricular and co‑curricular programs within the school.

Attend and actively participate in school faculty meetings and in‑services.

Continues Professional Development

Keep informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities.

Participate in professional activities and join appropriate professional organizations.

Attend diocesan‑sponsored in‑services.

Actively participate in the process of continuous school improvement.

Maintain personal professional development records.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Demonstrate personal self‑discipline and be adaptable and flexible in routine and unexpected situations.

Use good judgment in daily encounters.

Use verbal and written language correctly.

Demonstrate an appropriate sense of humor.

Understand good teaching techniques and child psychology.

Maintain appropriate grooming and dress at all times as stated in the faculty handbook.

Minimum Qualifications

Preference given to Catholic teachers who are willing to make a public Profession of Faith; non‑Catholics may support Catholic teachings and philosophy.

Hold a Bachelor’s Degree.

Be certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a teacher and meet applicable NCA requirements.

Have received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct.

Have completed FBI Fingerprint clearance.

Meet Ministry Formation Certification and/or re‑certification as required by Diocesan policy.
