Job Posting: Part-Time Writer for Student Current Events (Grades 3–6)

About the Role We are seeking a creative and reliable writer to join our educational team. You will craft engaging, age-appropriate articles on current events for elementary and middle grade students. Each week, you’ll research and write 3–5 articles that help students understand what’s happening in the world in a way that is both accessible and inspiring.
Responsibilities
Write 3–5 original articles per week (300–500 words each) on current events topics
Ensure content is appropriate and understandable for students in grades 3–6
Break down complex news and world issues into clear, engaging text for young readers
Collaborate with our editorial team and adjust articles based on feedback
Meet regular weekly deadlines
Incorporate graphics or supplemental materials (optional but a plus)
General Topic Ideas Writers will cover a diverse range of current events, with a focus on these general topic areas:
Space and Astronomy
Weather and Natural Disasters
Science and Technology Innovations
Community Helpers and Local Heroes
School and Education News
Cultural Celebrations and Traditions
Sports and Teamwork
Health and Nutrition
Social-Emotional Learning (Kindness, Empathy, Stress Management)
Famous Historical Events or Discoveries
Global Communities and Citizenship
Young Inventors and Student Achievements
Animal Science and Wildlife
Online Safety and Digital Citizenship
These topics should be adapted to reflect timely stories and help students connect with the world around them.
Requirements
Strong writing skills with experience writing for children or educational audiences
Ability to simplify current events, using clear and age-appropriate language
Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines
Degree or coursework in Education, Journalism, English, or related field preferred
Experience in classroom teaching, children’s media, or curriculum writing is a plus
