Salary Range:

$23.52 – $28.69 per hour Essential Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Obtains venous and capillary blood samples on correctly identified patients within the Laboratory and FDIHB.

Uses correct techniques in obtaining specimens, including drawing from appropriate sources and correct tubes endangered by age and accessibility.

Maintains a clean work area and abides by FDIHB’s Standard Precautions.

Transports/receives incoming outpatient specimens, directing them appropriately to departments.

Receives incoming reference laboratory results, separates and files reports according to policy.

Prepares cytology, surgical, and reference laboratory specimens for transport by courier to the reference laboratory.

Utilizes the computer and manual methods to correctly identify, collect, and accession patient samples.

Communicates basic instructions to patients in English and/or Navajo.

Participates in inventory control of FDIHB Laboratory supplies.

Performs CLIA‑waived testing within the F Maven Laboratory, Hospital and Clinics.

Understands and adheres to the critical value reporting policy for CLIA‑waived tests.

Participates in mandatory in‑services regarding Safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection Control.

Completes all required competency assessments and training by prescribed due dates.

Maintains confidentiality regarding patient, administrative, and laboratory data.

Ensures compliance with established safety anduré quality assurance standards.

Receives all calls, patients, and FDIHB employees with a friendly manner and utilizes AIDET.

Participates as an active member of the laboratory staff to improve overall operation and efficiency.

Evaluates requested procedures to determine specimen suitability, requesting new specimens if necessary.

Assists when needed to obtain specimens, including drawing from appropriate sources and correct tubes based on age and accessibility.

Correctly identifies and prepares specimens for analysis, ensuring physiological integrity.

Maintains knowledge of correct preparation and storage requirements for transportation to outside testing laboratories.

Selects the appropriate procedure for the request for service, aligned with patient considerations.

Prepares reagents and primary reference materials.

Performs, evaluates, and monitors non‑routine and specialized test procedures using manual or instrumental techniques per protocols.

Obtains analytical data, reports in approved units of measure.

Understands appropriate clinical states related to test results, recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; implements corrections and verifies results before release.

Reportsãe results to appropriate individuals, following hospital‑approved reporting policies, and documents all information in the patient’s electronic health record.

Performs quality control procedures on equipment, maintaining proper records for review and corrective action.

Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance on analyzers as scheduled and outlined in the Maintenance Procedure Manual.

Updating instrumentationuckle error codes and address errors to maintain accurate test results.

Analyzes QC data per Westgard Rules, documents findings with Medical Technologists or Laboratory Supervisors.

Ensures daily department logs are completed and corrective actions properly documented.

Reviews patient reports for accuracy and correctness.

Participates in Laboratory CAP Proficiency Program and maintains requisite competency levels for compliance.

Participates in Laboratory accreditation by maintaining laboratory documentation, knowledge, and skill levels per approved policies.

Recognizes and communicates indicators of malfunction of instruments/tests to supervisors; documents actions per QA policies and procedures.

Works with supervisors on action plans when control sample values are unacceptable.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications Experience:

Three (3) months documented training performing high‑complexity testing or completion ofTas Accredited Medical Laboratory Training Program Sym.

Education:

Associate’s Degree in Chemical, Biological, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.

Must provide copy of diploma and transcript upon hire to meet CLIA88 Standard (493.1489) for high‑complexity testing personnel.

Educational institution must be approved or accredited by ABHES, CAHEA, or equivalent HHS organization.

Candidates must be eligible for certification examinations by ASCP‑BOR, NCA, AACC, AMT, or AAB.
