General Statement of Duties A Henrico Teacher Fellow is a highly effective classroom teacher who spends a portion of the workday teaching students and a portion working closely with first‑year and provisionally licensed teachers in the designated Opportunity Schools. This new position, created as part of the Career Ladder, will support new and provisionally licensed teachers with lesson design and delivery, student engagement through strong tier‑one instruction, co‑teaching, and day‑to‑day management of professional responsibilities. The teacher fellow's classroom will serve as a learning lab that models research‑based instructional strategies for new teachers to observe in practice. In addition, Teacher Fellows will support PLCs and professional learning at their assigned schools. This 11‑month position represents a new option for teacher leaders who are seeking unique professional opportunities and responsibilities while continuing to work directly with students in the classroom. The Teacher Fellow position is part of the Professional Learning and Leadership Department.

HCPS Opportunity Schools This is an HCPS Opportunity School. Starting in the 2023‑24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools will designate select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity Schools through the HCPS Career Ladder. This is a new pathway within the Career Ladder through which entire schools, selected by HCPS, receive compensation supplements, additional staffing resources and specialized professional learning.

Essential Duties

Teach up to two classes, or the equivalent, at a designated school.

Support building Erickanddivision level professional learning in mentoring and supporting new and provisionally licensed teachers; serving as a model classroom for peer/new teacher observation; co‑teaching or modeling teaching specific strategies with teachers; facilitating and supporting Professional Learning Communities/Impact Teams; facilitating professional learning courses for the school and division (Microcredentials).

Understand and apply the principles of adult learning when working with instructional staff.

Develop meaningful and strong relationships with students, staff, and the school learning community.

Design and deliver effective and engaging learning experiences with students, and regularly assess learning progress of students.

Support new and provisionally licensed teachers with lesson design, instructional strategies, classroom management, and day‑to‑day professional responsibilities.

Model effective classroom instruction through both peer observations and co Social teaching opportunities.

Support the ongoing implementation of the HCPS Teaching and Learning Framework.

Fulfill the responsibilities of a classroom teacher.

Organize and support professional learning communities.

Facilitate monthly professional learning sessions for HCPS provisional teachers cohorts.

Support New Teacher Academy and the HCPS Teacher Mentoring Program.

Support school-based and district‑wide professional learning in alignment with the school quality goals and the strategic goals of Destination 2025.

Assist with the development of professional learning activities, microcredentials, and specializations.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical demands The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid, full‑renewable Virginia teaching license.

Minimum of five years of teaching experience.

Extensive knowledge of research‑based instructional practices, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, technology skills, and organizational skills.

Evidence of professional development experience and participation.

Evidence of supporting adult learners.

Additional Information This position is for the 2025‑2026 school year with a contractual start date of July 14, 2025. Actual salary will be prorated based on the candidate's official start date in the assignment.

Minimum Annual Starting Salary

$66,240.11 (Bachelor's)

$69,419.81 (Master's)

Assignment will be accompanied by a $3,500 HCPS Opportunity School stipend.
