The
Optometric Technicians
play a crucial role by assisting optometrists in providing eye care services to patients. Responsibilities will include conducting pre-examination tests, maintaining ophthalmic instruments, and assisting with vision tests and measurements. They may also conduct contact lens education including insertion and removal training. provide patient education on lens care, frame adjustments, and contact lens handling.
Responsibilities:
Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
Perform pre-exam testing which may include visual acuity assessment and intraocular pressure
Perform other tests as requested by doctor
Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses
Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
Maintain and conduct inventory of medications (if applicable) and supplies including contact lens trials and supportive materials
Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
Must prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
Performs other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience as an optometric technician is preferred but not required
Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
Well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail
Demonstrate superior computer skills
Highly energetic with positive attitude
Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours
Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting
Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat and professional appearance
Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business
