The Juvenile Supervisor manages and coordinates daily operations within the juvenile detention facility. The incumbent provides leadership and oversight for assigned staff, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards, including Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) regulations. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, and ensuring the effective delivery of rehabilitative and developmental services for youth in custody.

Responsibilities

Leads, motivates, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff, ensuring compliance with certification and performance standards.

Monitors staff performance, schedules, attendance, and leave to maintain required staff-to-youth ratios in accordance with TJJD standards.

Coaches and mentors staff to support trauma‑informed strategies, positive work habits, and professional growth.

Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal statutes, policies, and guidelines.

Maintains facility safety, security, and discipline while modeling positive behavioral interventions and consistent enforcement of rules.

Provides limited counseling, mentoring, and support to encourage personal growth and accountability.

Conducts facility inspections, audits, and safety drills; ensures corrective action on identified issues.

Reviews incident, grievance, and disciplinary reports; conducts investigations and prepares summary reports.

Develops and facilitates training to ensure compliance with certification, recertification, and continuing education requirements.

Prepares and maintains accurate records, statistics, and documentation required for TJJD, internal audits, and administrative review.

Collaborates with medical, clinical, and educational staff to ensure coordinated care and programming.

Responds promptly to emergencies, disturbances, and crises, utilizing approved intervention and restraint techniques when necessary.

May address and resolve complaints or concerns from youth, parents, staff, and community partners.

Develops and recommends operational policies and procedures to improve facility effectiveness.

Maintains professional and ethical standards, reporting any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately.

Commits to excellent customer service and promotes teamwork, safety, and integrity throughout the organization.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, Social Services, or a related field required.

Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

Custodial childcare or residential supervision experience preferred.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Certificates, Licenses and Registration

Must be eligible for certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

CPR, First Aid, and approved non‑violent restraint certification (e.g., Handle With Care).

Must have or obtain by hire date a valid driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of Hidalgo.

Proof of automobile liability insurance required.
