Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.**Description of Work**Recruitment Range: $87,849 - $103,184

- This position represents DEQ in litigation concerning the collection of civil penalties and related expenses. In this role, the position coordinates the efforts of DEQ employees and DOJ Environmental Division attorneys related to collection of DEQ civil penalties; coordinates with the paralegal assigned to the Collections Unit; and performs all work required to litigate, report on and research collections cases referred to the team

- This position also represents assigned environmental commissions. In this role, this position serves as the primary legal contact for the chairperson and members of a represented commission. This work is complementary to that of the other attorneys in the Commissions, Coastal and Administrative Section, who represent commissions and handle complex environmental litigation matters

- This position represents DEQ in personnel actions filed in the Office of Administrative Hearings, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and State and federal courts. This position also advises DEQ staff on personnel issues that arise under State and federal law

- This position represents the State in criminal cases on appeal from the Superior Court Division
