Job Summary The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

Responsibilities

Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.

Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.

Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.

Teaches patients, families, and caregivers about patient medical condition, status, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow‑up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

Teaches patients, families, and caregivers about any non‑medicinal follow‑up measures, such as healthy diet, exercise, disease prevention, and lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self‑management.

Qualifications

(RN) Registered Nurse.

Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or ACLS Instructor, must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.

Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certificate, must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.

Advanced Trauma Care for Nurse, or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Instructor, must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.

NIH Stroke Scale, must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date.

PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS Instructor, must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.

Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

\erc Location St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, part of St. David’s HealthCare. A full‑service medical center providing comprehensive care at two locations – the North Austin facility and St. David’s Surgical Hospital. The center features a 24‑hour emergency department, pediatric emergency care, intensive care, and an acute care hospital with facilities for maternity, neonatal intensive care, women's health, and more.
