Alaska's News Source is an award-winning, dominant number-one station looking for an experienced, licensed meteorologist for this critical part-time role, one we lean on to cover unfilled schedules as needed. The ideal candidate has broadcast meteorology and digital experience, a comfortable on-air appearance, a climate reporting skill set, and be able to break down complex weather data into easy-to-understand broadcast and online weathercasts, written stories, and multimedia weather content for digital platforms. We are looking for a proven Meteorologist with a passion for the career field and experience on broadcast and digital platforms, but with a schedule that is flexible to help us fill shifts both in advance and at the last-minute whenever needed. Duties/Responsibilities
Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting, both in the studio and in the field Ability to multitask, handle breaking weather/events, and adapt to rapidly changing developments Cover other meteorologists' shifts, as assigned, as well as the flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather/events Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media, including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format Be actively involved on the station's social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries Represent Alaska's News Source at community and station-sponsored events, including school presentations and station tours Record shortened daily weathercasts for radio partners Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news management, photographers, and newscast producers to deliver exceptional weather coverage and regular reporting Qualifications/Requirements
