Job Title: High School Theology Teacher Department: Theology Reports To: School Principal Status: 10-month Contract (Benefits Eligible) Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and qualified Theology teacher to join St. Michael High School starting with the 2026-27 school year. The High School Theology Teacher provides instruction in Catholic theology, scripture, and Church teachings, fostering spiritual growth and moral development in students. This role involves creating a faith-filled learning environment, integrating Catholic values into the curriculum, and guiding students to deepen their understanding of their faith and its application in their lives.

Key Responsibilities: Instruction and Curriculum Development

Plan and deliver engaging lessons on theology, scripture, Church history, morality, sacraments, and Catholic social teaching.

Develop and implement a curriculum aligned with the Catholic Church’s teachings and school guidelines.

Foster critical thinking, reflection, and dialogue about faith, ethics, and contemporary issues.

Incorporate prayer, liturgical celebrations, and spiritual practices into classroom activities.

Spiritual Formation

Encourage students to grow in their personal faith and relationship with God.

Support the school’s mission to nurture a Christ-centered community.

Assist in planning and participating in school liturgies, retreats, and service projects.

Student Development

Provide a safe and respectful environment for students to explore their faith.

Address questions and concerns about theology, ethics, and spirituality with sensitivity and clarity.

Mentor and guide students in their moral and spiritual development.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

Work with campus ministry, faculty, and administration to integrate faith into all aspects of school life.

Communicate with parents about student progress and spiritual growth.

Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on theological and educational practices.

Faith and Mission

Help students encounter Christ in and through their learning, guiding them to deepen their relationship with Him and grow as His disciples.

Reveal how your subject area points to the truth, beauty, and goodness of God, encouraging students to use their gifts in service of the common good.

Actively participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and faith-based activities, supporting the spiritual life of the community.

Create a classroom environment that pursues academic excellence while forming students in virtue, integrity, and their identity in Christ.

Qualifications: Education and Certification

Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field

State teaching certification or licensure in Theology (Preferred)

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

Skills and Experience

Strong knowledge of Catholic doctrine, scripture, and Church traditions.

Experience teaching theology at the high school level is preferred.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to inspire and engage students in their faith journey.

Work Environment:

Classroom setting with occasional responsibilities for retreats, liturgies, and service projects.

Participation in school-wide religious events and activities.
