Licensed Clinician – Mental Health Counselor (MC) Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) is a non‑profit human services organization that provides a range of social services, including drug and alcohol rehabilitation, to the Los Angeles community.

Pay Salary:

$92,924.14 – $98,281.41 per year

Job Summary and Purpose Under clinical.menu supervision of the Clinical Director and operations supervision of the Program Manager, you will assess clients, evaluate medical necessity for SUD treatment services, provide therapeutic counseling, and oversee counseling services provided by non‑licensed staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform client screening, intake, orientation, and assessment necessary to complete admission to the residential program and screen for continuing stay criteria based on ASAM Criteria.

Assess medical necessity for SUD treatment and complete diagnosis based on DSM‑5 evaluation.

Ensure adherence to DMC‑ODS Waiver,Issued Letter Title XXII, CARF standards, and HIPAA.

Provide treatment planning using ASAM Criteria aterapciated intervals to measure change.

Deliver treatment using trauma‑informed approach and evidence‑based practice protocols.

Provide and oversee individual, group, and family therapeutic counseling.

Maintain complete, timely, and accurate documentation of all treatment in Electronic Health Record system and client files with confidentiality as required by HIPAA.

Respond to client crises and emergencies as needed.

Act as client advocate to agencies and persons when appropriate.

Maintain the Arme of all clients by employing clear crisis communication and de‑escalation techniques when participants display hostile or volatile behaviors.

Develop positive workplace relationships with staff and peers by participating in professional development and training events, fostering a high level of professionalism.

Participate in routine clinical supervision or consultation with the Clinical Director.

Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and required training to ensure continuum and quality of care.

Assist with training and education projects for staff, residents, and community.

Serve as a role model through appropriate conduct and agency participation.

Other duties as may be required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check (including criminal history), personal references, employment and education verifications.

Education:

Master of Science or Master of Arts in Human Services, Social Work, or Psychology (or related discipline) from an accredited graduate school. Current state license from California BBS (MFT or LCSW).

Experience:

Prior experience treating clients with moderate to severe mental health symptoms (including volunteer or supervised student experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

Alcohol and Drug Counseling certification by an approved accrediting organization (CCAPP, CADTP, or CADEE).

Experience in alcohol and drug treatment.

Knowledge of ASAM criteria and local regulations (Drug Medi‑Cal, Los Angeles County services).

Familiarity with Electronic Clinical Management System.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Strong crisis management, conflict resolution, and de‑escalation skills.
