Job Profile Summary CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency, including scanners, post‑processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.

Major Responsibilities

Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned patient; refer and question orders to the radiologist before performing the exam, contacting the ordering provider when there are discrepancies.

Properly identify patients using two patient identifiers, assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures, and prepare patients for the procedure with a full explanation and appropriate documentation.

Interview patients for a complete medical history, review in‑patients, ER, and outpatient EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history, record medical history on requisitions, and correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.

Assume responsibility for the exam from start to completion of dictated results.

Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols; record contrast type and amount when requested.

Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with a radiologist if needed, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing any additional, reconstructed images or measurements as instructed.

Perform basic patient care functions, inform nursing personnel of any changes in patient condition, initiate life support measures when necessary, and assist in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies.

Perform CT scanning and assist the radiologist/PA during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies and complying with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies.

Obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner.

Practice radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and families, following appropriate safety standards.

Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer; maintain knowledge and skills required for a safe environment that may involve bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.

Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures, attend all in‑service classes, and complete all required safety modules.

Perform work accurately and timely in crisis and emergency situations, rotating shifts as required, including call‑back, holidays, and weekends, and adhering to the Atrium Health attendance policy by being punctual and preventing absences.

Operate radiology computer system to enter orders, charge procedures/supplies, and document contrast administration in the MAR.

Maintain assigned work area neat and orderly, keeping it stocked and clean.

Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, during exams or services involving a CT scan.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education:

Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Certification / License:

ARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and an advanced registry from the ARRT in CT required within one year of hire; BLS required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies; frequent standing, walking, sitting, stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling; may be exposed to various physical conditions such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment; required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.
