Position Overview The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing daily production operations to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency targets are consistently met. This role leads frontline supervisors and production teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and partners closely with quality, maintenance, and operations leadership.
This is a hands‑on role requiring strong floor presence, clear communication, and the ability to lead teams in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Production Leadership
Lead day‑to‑day production operations to meet output, quality, and delivery goals
Supervise and develop production supervisors and hourly employees
Establish clear expectations, monitor performance, and drive accountability across shifts
Scheduling & Execution
Develop and execute production schedules aligned with customer demand and capacity
Balance labor, equipment utilization, and throughput to maximize efficiency
Identify and address bottlenecks impacting production flow
Safety & Quality
Champion workplace safety and ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures
Reinforce quality standards and ensure production teams follow standard work and SOPs
Partner with quality teams to address defects, rework, and corrective actions
Continuous Improvement
Drive Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and enhance productivity
Utilize daily huddles, metrics, and root‑cause analysis to resolve issues and prevent recurrence
People Development
Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and team leads
Support hiring, onboarding, and training of production staff
Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development plans
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Partner with maintenance to ensure equipment uptime and preventive maintenance adherence
Work closely with operations, quality, and supply chain teams to support production goals
Communicate production performance, risks, and needs to leadership
Reporting & Metrics
Track and report key performance indicators related to safety, quality, delivery, and productivity
Use data to drive informed decision‑making and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred (operations, business, or related field)
5 years of production or manufacturing leadership experience
Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and Lean principles
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
Experience managing schedules, labor planning, and production metrics
Strong communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
Experience working with ERP or manufacturing systems preferred
Work Environment & Requirements
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels
Ability to lift up to 250 pounds as required
Willingness to work flexible hours or be on‑call to support production needs
