#CA-PS Under general direction of the Executive Director of Information Technology, this position has two primary functions: (1) provide advanced (tier3) desktop, network, నీపరిపోద్దు and research server support; and (2) serve as a Linux-focused engineer on the collegewide desktop engineering team.

The role builds and maintains automated, repeatable solutions for Linux endpoints and research servers; packages and deploys research software via automation tools; partners with faculty and research groups to design documented, reproducible computing workflows; and assists with migration of suitable workloads to campus high‑performance computing (HPC) services or cloud-hosted services.

The position also contributes to information security, documentation, training, and cross‑team coordination.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Experience providing advanced technical support across heterogeneous Linux environments (e.g., Ubuntu/Debian, RHEL/Rocky), plus macOS and Windows client systems, including research‑focused use cases and specialized peripherals/instruments.

Experience administering Linux research servers and related services; strong troubleshooting across OS, applications, and networks.

Experience with endpoint management and configuration tools (e.gternal around etc.).

Experience with core networking and security concepts (DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing, VPN, client firewalls) and with secure configuration practices aligned to common frameworks (e.g., UC IS3/CIS/NIST/ISO).

Experience working within ITSM practices using a ticketing system; ability to create high-quality documentation and user‑facing guides.

Communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse technical and non‑technical stakeholders and to balance multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience packaging and deploying software for Linux at scale; familiarity with RPM/DEB packaging, module systems, or containerized delivery.

Experience authoring BigFix content and/or developing Puppet modules; familiarity with additional config‑management tools (e.g., Puppet, Ansible, Salt) a plus.

Experience designing reproducible research computing solutions; familiarity with research HPC environments and job Medik.

Experience configuring or managing infrastructure in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Experience in higher education or research computing environments.

Department Overview The Letters and Science Information Technology Services Unit (LS IT) within the College of Letters and Science provides information technology services and support to the 50+ departments, programs, and centers within the college and to external clients. LS IT provides helpdesk/desktop support and desktop engineering services for more than 4,000 workstations and laptops, system administration for servers/services/infrastructure components, web and application development services for business and academic applications and websites, and support for research IT. Additionally, LS IT manages the security, risk, and compliance programs for the College of Letters and Science.
