Description:Provides direct assistance to the surgeon(s) during surgical procedures within scope of practice for Certified Surgical First AssistantReports to: Director - Surgical ServicesPositions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.DragEditDeleteProvides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.DragEditDeleteUtilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.DragEditDeleteAssists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.DragEditDeletePrepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.DragEditDeleteDetermines specific equipment needed for the procedure and ensures safe operation prior to the surgical procedureDragEditDeletePasses instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.Qualifications:Minimum EducationGraduate of a Surgical Tech or Surgical First Assistant Program - RequiredDragEditDeleteRequired SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.DragEditDeleteRequired SkillsCertifications:BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire.DragEditDeleteRequired SkillsLicenses: Surgical First Assistant or Surgical Assistant Certification - RequiredDragEditDeleteMinimum Work Experience6 months Surgical Tech and/or First Assistant experience - Preferred.
