Job Title: Staff Accountant Summary The Staff Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations across dealership departments, with a strong focus on general ledger (GL) accuracy and reconciliation. This role assists with financial reporting, transaction processing, and compliance while working closely with the CFO and accounting leadership to maintain accurate financial records for the dealership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Accounting Operations & General Ledger
Assist with preparing monthly financial statements in accordance with dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
Maintain the general ledger, including posting journal entries and completing monthly account reconciliations.
Reconcile bank accounts, inventory accounts, floor plan accounts, and manufacturer receivables.
Enter and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and timely.
Process and record vehicle deals, repair orders, and parts invoices.
Prepare daily deposits and ensure all receipts are recorded properly.
Maintain schedules and supporting documentation for financial transactions.
Payroll & Benefits Support
Assist the Payroll/Benefits Administrator with payroll data entry and timekeeping reviews.
Support benefit enrollment reporting and maintain Norman payroll-related records as assigned.
Compliance & Reporting
Assist with preparation of sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filings under supervision.
Ensure compliance with internal accounting controls and external regulations.
Monitor warranty schedules and manufacturer-related accounts for accuracy.
Administrative & Cross-Functional Support
Respond to internal inquiries regarding invoices, payments, and accounting discrepancies.
Support dealership departments with accounting processes and documentation.
Maintain organized, accurate, and up-to-date financial files.
Assist with internal audits and documentation requests.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with floor plan reporting and reconciliations.
Monitor outstanding customer and vendor balances and follow up as needed.
Support month‑end close by preparing required reports and schedules.
Perform other duties as assigned by accounting leadership.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
1–3 years of accounting experience, with general ledger experience required.
Automotive dealership accounting experience preferred.
Solid understanding of accounting principles and GL functions.
Experience with dealership management systems (CDK, Dealertrack, or similar) preferred.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
