The School-Based Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) supports the physical, medical, and personal care needs of students under the supervision and delegation of the school nurse consultant. The CNA plays a vital role in promoting student health, safety, dignity, and access to education by providing individualized and timely care. Responsibilities include delegated medical procedures, assistance with personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, behavior support, and contributing to a safe and inclusive school environment.
Experience working with students with disabilities preferred. Candidate must be a strong team player with effective communication skills between staff, students and families. School-Based Certified Nursing Assistants work under the supervision of licensed staff. We are seeking a candidate who displays high energy, flexibility, creativity, problem solving skills and a strong desire to work in challenging situations.
Delegated Medical and Health Procedures:
  • Perform medical procedures as delegated and supervised by a licensed school nurse (e.g., catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, blood glucose monitoring, seizure response).
  • Document care provided and report changes in student condition to the school nurse immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all medical information in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Personal Hygiene and Care:
  • Assist students with toileting, diapering, bathing, grooming, dressing, and other hygiene needs while maintaining student dignity and privacy.
  • Support students with feeding and hydration needs, including tube feedings and adaptive utensils.

Safety and Supervision:
  • Ensure student safety during mobility and transitions (e.g., bus loading/unloading, classroom transitions, recess).
  • Assist with the use of mobility devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, braces, and lift.
  • Monitor and support students with behavioral or medical conditions that may require continuous observation.

Classroom and School Support:
  • Collaborate with special education staff, classroom teachers, therapists, and administrators to support instructional access and engagement.
  • Support student participation in school activities, field trips, and community-based instruction as appropriate.
  • Assist with transferring students to and from various locations within the school building.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduated from a nursing assistant program and carry an active CNA license.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification is required within 3 months after hire.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Medication administration class required within 3 months of hire.
  • One year of experience in health care.

7.5 hrs/day on a 185 day calendar.
Starting salary for this position is a Grade 6 starting at $22.98 per hour.
