Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Design Engineer III to lead and oversee engineering design projects. The ideal candidate will act as the lead responsible engineer, ensuring quality assurance, adherence to established standards, and effective coordination among various functional groups and external engineering partners. This role requires a strong background in utility substation design, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide technical guidance to newer engineers. The position is remote but requires local presence for monthly team meetings and occasional site visits.

Responsibilities: Serve as the lead responsible engineer for oversight of Engineer of Choice (EOC) design projects. Coordinate information among all functional groups and EOCs. Provide feedback from the owner's perspective on the quality of EOC deliverables. Oversee, review, and ensure quality assurance of design and engineering packages. Ensure engineering design packages comply with established client standards and specifications. Support the development of engineering schedules and cost estimates. Review Substation Change Control (SCC) and approve in PowerBase. Perform NERC CIP-related tasks, including ECQAL, CIP-11, commissioning sign-offs, DTD reviews, and ensuring NTDs are generated as required. Coordinate with client work groups to address Requests for Information (RFIs) during development, engineering, and construction phases. Provide support for the procurement of major long-lead equipment required for project execution. Collaborate with Project and Contract Management to ensure safe, cost-effective, and constructable designs that meet all deliverables.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of utility substation design experience, including Physical/Electrical, Protection/Control, and knowledge of associated disciplines such as Protection Settings, SCADA, and Civil/Structural. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact across different work groups and organizational levels. Ability to translate complex design concepts into simpler terms for newer engineers. Working knowledge of industry standards, including but not limited to NEC, NESC, and IEEE.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge or experience with client and/or National Grid legacy substation standards.

Pay Range: $85 - $90

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
