Purchasing Manager
Reports To: Controller Summary Responsible for all production (manufacturing) related purchasing of supplies. Duties And Responsibilities Place orders on a timely basis for purchases of materials and supplies. Be familiar with standard products used and research sources of supplies for highest quality, best value for money, best terms, etc. Establish vendor files and inventory control records. Maintain price records and handle discrepancies as they arise. Inform management of upcoming price increases, improved product availability, and economical alternatives. Monitor costs of utilities and research ways to reduce costs. Inform management of cost increases. Negotiate utility contracts. In conjunction with the Systems Administrator, coordinate telecommunication services. Process employee time cards. Assist General Manager (and/or Production Manager) with the purchase of capital equipment. Manage Supplies and Spares Inventory. Comply with company policies and procedures. Additional duties as assigned by management. Education And/or Experience High school diploma or GED Two years' experience as a proven manager Clear, concise oral and written communication skills Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following: College degree Ten years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment Ten years inventory experience in a manufacturing environment Experience in the corrugated box industry Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, and contracts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees of the company. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, volume, and net present value. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Technical Skills Computer literate Negotiation skills Physical Demands Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Performance Measurements The performance of the Purchasing Manager will be measured as follows: Operating standards - The employee will need to meet or exceed the Operating Standards set in the areas of quality, cost, safety, planning, customer satisfactions, supervision, efficiency, and productivity. Such standards will be set annually and communicated to the manager. Personal growth - Each year there will be professional goals developed and agreed to by the manager and supervisor.
