Safe Harbor Estate Law is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Estate Planning Associate Attorney to join a client-focused legal team.
As an Estate Planning Associate Attorney, you will work closely with clients under the guidance of more senior attorneys.
Your responsibilities will include advising on legal options, drafting estate planning documents, and ensuring compliance with both state and federal laws. In addition to estate planning, you may also handle probate proceedings, guardianship cases, and conservatorships, offering comprehensive legal support during times of transition or incapacity.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Minnesota estate and tax law, excellent communication skills, and a client-first mindset.
Responsibilities
Client Consultation and Strategy
a. Meet with clients to assess their estate planning needs.
b. Educate clients on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and other planning tools.
c. Develop tailored estate plans based on family dynamics, asset structure, and clients' long-term goals.
Document Drafting and Review
a. Draft and review legal documents such as wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney (financial and healthcare), and advance healthcare directives
b. Ensure legal documents reflect client intentions and are compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
Legal Research and Compliance
a. Stay current with changes in estate planning laws, tax regulations, and probate codes.
b. Research complex legal questions regarding estate taxation, gifting, asset protection, etc.
Client Relationship Management
a. Build and maintain relationships with clients and their families.
b. Coordinate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals.
Qualifications
•Four-year university degree and Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required. •Active license to practice law in Minnesota. •2+ years of experience in estate planning. •Experience in client-facing legal work.
