Lab Technician
Company Overview: Our sustainable materials company provides material recovery and recycling solutions for plastics manufacturers. We partner with major petrochemical resin producers, specialty polymer makers, and finished product manufacturers. Our team provides detailed technical material identification for off-grade and recycled plastic streams to ensure they are used in the most ideal and effective applications. Position Overview:
We're looking for a professional, detail-oriented, and process-driven Lab Technician to help build and support our technical lab capabilities. In this role, you'll primarily be responsible for conducting tests on plastic materials at our Houston plant to ensure they meet specified standards and performance criteria. Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Operation: You'll set up, calibrate, and operate equipment such as FTIR, DSC, and TGA, according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ASTM Standards. You'll also ensure all equipment is well-maintained and in good working condition.
Material Testing: Perform a variety of mechanical, thermal, chemical, and physical tests on plastic materials, including tensile, impact, hardness, melt index, and density testing, as well as thermal analysis and chemical resistance testing. You'll also prepare samples for testing, including using injection molding.
Data Collection and Analysis: Accurately record test data, analyze results, and compare them to required standards. You'll identify any deviations, work with the team to determine their causes, and use computer programs to gather and visualize the data.
Test Documentation: Maintain detailed records of testing procedures, results, and observations. You will also generate reports that summarize test results for engineering teams or management.
Quality Assurance: Help develop and refine testing protocols to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of all test results.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols while handling materials, chemicals, and testing equipment. You will ensure the testing environment remains clean and safe.
Position Requirements:
Education: An associate degree or vocational certification in materials science, chemistry, engineering, or a related field is required. A degree from Industrial Training International (ITI) or another technical school is a plus. Experience: Candidates must have prior experience in a lab environment and be able to lead testing projects from start to finish.
You should be able to read, understand, and apply ASTM and ISO test methods.
A strong willingness to learn about new materials, testing methods, and techniques is essential.
Technical Skills: You should be familiar with various material testing techniques and equipment, including the software used to operate them.
Experience with plastic testing is a must. This includes tests such as tensile, impact, moisture analysis, melt index, density, and thermal and infrared analysis.
Proficiency in data analysis and report generation is required.
Strong computer skills are essential, as all lab equipment is operated with corresponding software. You must be comfortable using digital tools to compile and review data.
Soft Skills: Attention to Detail: You must have a diligent focus on accuracy and precision in testing and data recording.
Problem-Solving: The ability to troubleshoot testing issues and resolve problems independently.
Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills are needed for reporting and collaborating with team members.
Continuous Improvement: You'll be encouraged to suggest and implement improvements to testing processes, equipment, and methods to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Team Collaboration: You'll work closely with engineers, scientists, and other technicians to support product development, quality control, and research activities.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $25.00 - $28.00
