The Executive Director for DVM Enrollment and Student Services (EDDESS) reports to the Associate Dean for Professional Programs and provides key oversight and involvement in student support, advising, counseling, and admissions. Job Description

The Executive Director for DVM Enrollment and Student Services (EDDESS) reports to the Associate Dean for Professional Programs and provides key oversight and involvement in student support, advising, counseling, and admissions.

The Executive Director For DVM Enrollment And Student Services

Manages direct reports within the Office of Academic Affairs and chairs (a) the Admissions Committee and (b) the Scholarships and Awards Committee. Is an ex officio member of the Curriculum Board. Is responsible for DVM clerkship scheduling; monitoring major exam results for students in years one through three of the DVM curriculum; and continually managing, assessing, and updating the DVM admissions processes.

This position has full-time, on-site responsibilities at the College's main campus in Blacksburg, VA, and has the opportunity for appointment to an academic department dependent on qualifications.

Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Actively advises students throughout the admissions process and beyond, including providing feedback to unsuccessful applicants, onboarding admitted students, and ensuring access to career advising

Provides leadership for assigned areas and facilitates schoolwide initiatives that foster student learning and development in the academic, social, and civic environments Supports the Associate Dean for Professional Programs in preparing, editing, and delivering timely required reports Actively participates in preparing for and responding to accreditation feedback and requests Collaborates with essential campus personnel (e.g., Registrar, Bursar, Financial Aid, Services for Students with Disabilities, Risk Management, Student Health, Cook Counseling, Hokie Wellness, etc.) Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, operating procedures, and programs and services; monitors and evaluates overall effectiveness, and develops and implements programmatic changes required for improvement Provides leadership in short- and long-term strategic planning and implementation of recruitment programs and activities, marketing plans, technology, and office goals that encompass the recruitment of DVM students and the review of their applications Works closely with parents, students, counselors and school officials, campus partners, academic departments, and external constituents to achieve programmatic goals Develops innovative plans to support the university’s goals of attracting and retaining a professional, academically talented, and collegial student population Serves a lead role in the planning, evaluation, and overall management of assigned areas Conducts research in an area of interest, preferably related to student services and admissions or within veterinary education more broadly Works to obtain intra- and/or extramural grant funding to support scholarly work Regularly interacts with college and university leadership to manage student-related issues in a prudent and timely manner Maintain relationships with external partner programs Teach within the veterinary program and possibly within the public health program Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and university policies Fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and team-oriented work culture Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, professional development and evaluation of personnel Leads or serves actively on appropriate School, University, and Professional committees and task forces Positively and effectively represents the program, college, and university to internal and external constituents Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

A DVM or DVM equivalent degree Five or more years of demonstrated veterinary experience in academic, private, public, or corporate practice Recognized excellence in teaching in a veterinary program Strong data analytical, organizational and communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative abilities Demonstrated skill in working collaboratively within a complex organization with many different departments and personnel Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise strict confidentiality and good judgment when working with sensitive subjects

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in advising professional students or veterinarians, including career or academic counseling Previous experience in various types of veterinary employment Previous experience in highly selective, contemporary admissions processes Previous experience working in higher education or professional health education Advanced training in education
