VP, Business Development & Distribution (E&S) Job Description
The VP, Business Development & Distribution is responsible for the creation, leadership, and execution of the go-to-market strategy for all insurance products in the Excess & Surplus (E&S) segment. Acting as a strategic partner to the segment President and internal stakeholders, the VP, Business Development & Distribution is the external face of the organization to wholesale broker leadership. The VP, Business Development & Distribution leads broker relationship management, market intelligence, strategic planning, branding, and promotional efforts that support business development and market expansion.
Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and lead the go-to-market distribution strategy for the E&S segment to drive profitable growth and market expansion
Maintain deep and wide understanding of the organization's business model, appetite, and product offering
Oversee the development and execution of marketing and promotional campaigns (customer acquisition, experience, branding) that support Company initiatives
Partner closely with Underwriting, Actuarial, and operations teams to ensure market strategies are executable and supported Direct broker planning, market research, branding, promotional, and related activities to achieve organizational goals
Manage, train, and develop the business development and distribution team
Lead business development and distribution team to ensure performance of critical functions including onboarding new brokers, maintenance of contract files, and maintenance of broker databases
Recruit, evaluate, contract, and on-board new brokerage clients as needed
Coordinate new and existing profit-sharing programs where applicable
Serve as the executive liaison to wholesale brokers and represent the company at key industry forums
Use market intelligence and data insights to guide strategy, identify growth opportunities, and improve efficiency
Align distribution strategies with broader segment goals and manage related budgets and incentive programs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Deep expertise in casualty insurance and strong relationships within the wholesale brokerage community
Proven executive-level leadership in distribution, marketing, and strategic planning
Skilled in developing and executing product marketing and branding campaigns across multiple channels
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and data-driven decision-making capabilities
Excellent communication, public speaking, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Effective team leader with the ability to set direction, manage performance, and drive results in a fast-paced environment
Ability to travel as required
Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 15 years of experience in the insurance industry required, E&S lines preferred
Minimum of five years of people management experience (supervision, lead) required
Insurance-industry professional designations or continuing education preferred
