Digital Consultants seeks a Senior Computer Network Support Architect to support the Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Responsible for the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise network infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments, ensuring resiliency, scalability, and alignment with IRS modernization initiatives. The Senior Architect will serve as a lead engineering resource supporting advanced network operations, providing subject-matter expertise in areas such as cloud networking, virtualization, and infrastructure automation. This role requires proactive collaboration with cross-functional teams, vendors, and Government stakeholders to ensure continuity of operations and support for IRS strategic IT objectives in security, performance, and modernization. Digital Consultants seeks a Senior Computer Network Support Architect to support the Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Responsible for the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise network infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments, ensuring resiliency, scalability, and alignment with IRS modernization initiatives. The Senior Architect will serve as a lead engineering resource supporting advanced network operations, providing subject-matter expertise in areas such as cloud networking, virtualization, and infrastructure automation. This role requires proactive collaboration with cross-functional teams, vendors, and Government stakeholders to ensure continuity of operations and support for IRS strategic IT objectives in security, performance, and modernization.

Kearneysville, WV or possibly other IRS-supported work locations

Duties To Include

Architect, design, and implement enterprise-level network solutions for IRS data centers, cloud environments, and WAN/LAN infrastructure. Develop and optimize high-availability and cost-efficient network architectures across public, private, and hybrid environments. Lead the design and integration of network virtualization technologies, containers (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Ansible). Provide technical guidance on large-scale network upgrades, migrations, and automation initiatives. Collaborate with engineers, cloud specialists, and cybersecurity personnel to deliver secure, resilient network solutions aligned with IRS operational and security requirements. Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity policies, including NIST 800-53, FISMA, and IRS-specific standards. Support troubleshooting of complex network issues and optimization of routing, switching, and security architectures. Produce network design documentation, diagrams, and technical reports to support engineering and operational planning.

Requirements

Clearance: Moderate Risk Background Investigation (MBI) before beginning work. Education: Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Certifications: Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) required. Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect are strongly preferred.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in network architecture, design, and implementation. Proven expertise in designing and deploying secure, enterprise-scale network infrastructures across hybrid (on-prem/cloud) environments. Strong hands-on experience with network virtualization (e.g., VLAN, VRF, VXLAN), software-defined networking (SDN), and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible. Deep understanding of routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), firewall configuration, load balancing, and access control strategies. Demonstrated experience with network segmentation frameworks such as Cisco ISE and TrustSec in Zero Trust environments. Familiarity with cloud networking across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud platforms, including cloud-native security and high availability designs. Experience supporting large-scale federal or enterprise clients in secure, regulated environments.

Skills

Expertise in designing and implementing large-scale WAN/LAN and hybrid cloud infrastructures. Proficiency with virtualization, container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible). Strong knowledge of Cisco enterprise technologies, routing/switching protocols, and high-availability network architectures. Experience integrating systems across public, private, and hybrid clouds while ensuring compliance with NIST 800-53, FISMA, and IRS security standards. Ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and produce detailed network architecture diagrams and technical documentation Physical Requirements: The candidate must, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to sit, stand, use computers and monitors, and perform duties in an office environment for extended periods. The candidate must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion (e.g., moving IT hardware or shipping containers).
