TheSenior Director of Workflow Marketing will lead the enterprise-level coordination and delivery of comprehensive workflow strategies that span Illumina’s product portfolio. This role will operate at the convergence of commercial, product, and technical teams to define, build, and deliver application-specific workflows for key genomics and multiomics use cases—tailored by customer segment and competitive landscape.
The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of genomics, includingclinical applications, transcriptomics, proteomics, methylation, and the technical nuances acrosslibrary prep, sequencing platforms, automation, software, and informatics. They will serve as a strategic orchestrator across a highly matrixed organization, enabling cohesive execution across stakeholder groups while ensuring clarity, rigor, and measurable progress.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Workflow Leadership
Define and execute Illumina’s global workflow strategy, ensuring application-centric design that is aligned to customer needs, market trends, and scientific innovation
Collaborate with Product Management, Segment Marketing, Library Prep, Informatics, Software, and Platform teams to integrate modular product elements into seamless, ready-to-deploy workflow solutions
Lead cross-functional governance processes to prioritize and deliver workflow roadmaps across high-value application types and customer segments
Portfolio Integration & Customer-Centric Design
Serve as the centralized lead for workflow triage, drawing input from technical experts across Illumina’s full portfolio
Stratify workflow definitions based on application area, regional variation, customer type, and competitive intelligence
Collaborate with Sales, Commercial Operations, and Regional GMs to define commercialization plans, GTM approaches, and field compensation strategies aligned to workflow delivery
Executive Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a primary voice in communicating workflow progress, impact, and strategic priorities to theExecutive Leadership Team and Board of Directors
Translate complex technical and business inputs into clear, actionable recommendations across scientific, product, and commercial teams
Act as an advocate for the voice of the customer, ensuring that real-world needs shape workflow design and execution
Market Messaging & Differentiation
Work closely with Global Marketing and Software Product Management to define messaging and productization strategies for workflows
Ensure that Illumina’s workflows are clearly articulated in positioning documents, value props, and customer-facing campaigns
Track and interpret competitive moves across workflow components to guide strategic pivots and differentiation
Executional Rigor & Program Oversight
Build and maintain a robust program management structure for workflow projects, driving clarity, accountability, and measurable outcomes
Ensure on-time delivery of key milestones by managing cross-functional resources, priorities, and risks
Operate with a high degree of executional excellence and visibility across the organization
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering, or related field required; M.S., Ph.D. or MBA strongly preferred
15+ years of progressive experience in biotechnology, genomics, or life sciences, with leadership roles in project or product management
Deep expertise acrossgenomics workflows, library preparation, sequencing platforms (all formats), automation, and informatics
Demonstrated success in navigating matrixed organizations and aligning diverse technical and commercial stakeholders
Experience working with global teams and commercial organizations to drive product adoption and revenue growth
Strong track record of delivering strategic programs with executional rigor and customer impact
Excellent executive communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills
Experience with clinical applications of genomics strongly preferred; familiarity with proteomics, methylation, or transcriptomics is a plus
The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Director, Workflow Marketing role based in the United States of America is: $220,500 - $330,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
