Since its founding in 1978, Studio Theatre has been based in the historic neighborhood of Logan Circle in Washington DC. Inspired by the world around us, Studio brings personal, political plays to audiences across the Washington metropolitan area. Studio’s mission combines a commitment to artistic craftsmanship with the connective power of live theatre: “To produce exceptional contemporary theatre in deliberately intimate spaces, fostering a more thoughtful, more empathetic, and more connected community, in Washington, DC and beyond.” Recognized by the DC Council as “a pioneer in launching Washington, DC’s theatre into prominence in the American theatre of the 21st century,” Studio presents a diverse roster of thought-provoking contemporary plays featuring local, national, and international theatre artists. Each season, Studio produces seven to nine productions of contemporary drama, including new plays and commissions to develop new works that will shape the field. We also invest in community partnerships and nurture future arts leaders through a professional development apprenticeship program. Our work has been recognized with numerous nominations and awards, and we aim to serve as an anchor arts institution in Washington, DC. THE POSITION
The Assistant Production Manager will assist in overseeing all aspects of the production department's day-to-day operations. This role acts as the Company Management lead, managing backstage crew, the Stage Management Fellow, and the Company Management Fellow. This position requires some weekend and evening work to meet production and management schedules. It will primarily require onsite work in conjunction with Studio Theatre’s remote work policy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate scheduling of rehearsals, production meetings, technical rehearsals, and other sessions for the season. Assist in managing technical rehearsals, leading production meetings during tech, and recording technical notes. Track and reconcile production department spending with Department Heads. Secure signed copies of all production riders, contracts, and agreements with the Director of Production. Prepare and distribute production and technical schedules to relevant departments. Coordinate all production events, including design reviews, rehearsals, tech weeks, and post-mortems. Manage artist comps ticket requests with the box office. Oversee and hire backstage run crew. Work with the Company Management Fellow on travel, hospitality, and housing logistics for staff and artists. Maintain housing facilities and coordinate cleaning and calendars. Build and reconcile budgets for travel and hospitality. Prepare and submit workers’ compensation claims as needed. Act as a point of contact for show staff emergencies and manage related claims. Supervise the Stage Management Fellow and Company Management Fellow, providing feedback and development support. Collaborate with the EDI Committee to promote inclusive practices. Contribute to the Safety Committee and anti-racism initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge of Theatre Production and Company Management; detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work under pressure and with diverse groups. Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, and other relevant programs. Ability to develop and monitor production budgets. Local or willing to relocate to the DMV area; relocation assistance not provided. Willingness to work onsite. Compensation
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position with an annual salary of $55,000 to $60,000. Benefits include health insurance, FSA, retirement plan, paid holidays, and vacation leave. Studio Theatre’s hours are Monday–Friday, 10am–6pm, with some evening and weekend work required due to the nature of live theatre. How to Apply
