Job Description
The Director of Civic Engagement and Service Learning advances the educational mission of the institution through relationships with campus partners and civic organizations in order to facilitate meaningful student volunteer activities, preparing each for a meaningful life and career.
Through the office of Wesleyan Engaged and by collaborating across campus and in the community, students are provided opportunities to make an impact while reflecting on their personal development and the connection between the classroom and active citizenship. The Director works to make the community a priority in the values and life choices of students, enhance the campus culture for service, and provide student leadership opportunities and transferable skills through service to others.
Responsibilities
Develop and coordinate service programs and volunteer opportunities for students. Carry out all tasks needed to implement these events, such as program logistics, marketing, volunteer coordination, on-site management, and budgeting. Establish and implement methods to evaluate service experiences and track student involvement, growth, and development. Oversee the recruitment, selection, supervision, and training of student leaders, Federal Community Service Work-Study Program, and student volunteers. Promote service opportunities through a regular social media presence. Conduct orientations and training to ensure proper risk management protocol is followed. Identify funding opportunities and collaborate with the Center for Advancement to prepare grant proposals. Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment and Batten Honors College to recruit students for the Bonner Leaders Program, oversee the development of civic leadership courses, and provide community service opportunities for program participants. Coordinate campus voter registration efforts. Adhere to deadlines for relevant civic engagement awards, both individual and institutional, such as the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, Campus Compact Civic Action Plan, NASPA Voter Friendly Designation, and the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards. Partner with faculty, staff, and other colleagues to create educational, civic, and service experiences for all members of the campus community.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a master’s degree in a field related to service learning, civic engagement, and volunteerism with 3-5 years of progressive volunteer management experience, preferably in higher education. Knowledge of volunteer database management, social media communication, interpersonal communication, and customer service.
