VP, Commercial Underwriter - Franchise Finance

Job Description The VP, Commercial Underwriter - Franchise Finance serves as the primary underwriter for complex relationships in the large corporate and middle market portfolio for Northwest Bank. The ability to independently perform highly in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis at the client, industry, and macroeconomic levels is required. The Commercial Underwriter is expected to design and recommend credit structures to senior leadership that align with the clients' needs and the Bank's risk appetite. Regular client contact will occur as part of underwriting and portfolio management duties. When Northwest Bank is the lead agent, the Commercial Underwriter will prepare loan syndication market materials and other supporting documentation, and may participate in sell-side activities. Essential Functions Prepare detailed credit memoranda for complex lending relationships. Conduct comprehensive analysis of client financial statements. Recommend appropriate loan structures, including covenants and definitions. Identify credit strengths, weaknesses, risks, and mitigating factors. Determine the scope of underwriting and due diligence based on client risk profile. Participate in joint calls with Relationship Managers. Maintain knowledge of macroeconomic factors affecting markets. Identify and track loan and credit policy exceptions. Monitor ongoing portfolio risk and recommend proactive actions. Prepare regular reviews for portfolio relationships. Recommend and justify risk ratings. Review and negotiate legal documentation with outside counsel. Develop financial forecasts and enterprise valuations. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Utilize Microsoft Office and department-specific software effectively. Collaborate as part of a team. Operate on-site equipment as needed. Education + Experience Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. 8-12 years of underwriting experience in the Restaurant and Franchise Finance sector. This position can be performed remotely unless residing within 40 miles of specified Hub locations, in which case on-site work is required Monday-Thursday, with Friday optional.
