Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Motor Case
Castelion is seeking an expert in the manufacture and design of high-performance solid rocket motor cases. This role will work closely with design engineering and technician teams to build and execute testing and validation efforts to meet the research and development timetable of our products. You will be part of a team responsible for serving as a critical node in implementing feedback from testing and validation efforts, streamlining designs, and implementing manufacturing changes to quickly mature our products for flight testing and production. A desire for product and process ownership is essential in this role.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with component design engineering teams to assess manufacturing and testing feasibility of products.
Serve as a standalone resource responsible for a family of mechanisms.
Develop and mature testing and validation procedures for various complex mechanisms.
Generate concept proposals aligned with R&D efforts to aid in requirements gathering.
Down-select solutions based on vehicle attributes, system cost, and weight.
Propose and defend solutions during engineering review meetings.
Develop and refine process documentation, including build instructions, test procedures, safety standards, and mBOMs.
Create and communicate detailed production plans and schedules.
Work with supply chain to develop new and existing suppliers as needed.
Design, develop, and implement production tooling and equipment.
Participate in design reviews to promote design for manufacturing (DFM).
Oversee the introduction and implementation of new products and manufacturing capabilities.
Analyze and resolve manufacturing issues and non-conformances.
Develop, mentor, and train colleagues and peers.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in mechanisms manufacturing, testing, and validation.
Experience with operations and product line management.
Proven leadership ability, direct or indirect.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (NX preferred).
Experience in selection, procurement, and validation of manufacturing equipment.
Skills and Experience
Experience in mechanisms design, testing, and validation from high-volume production environments.
Development of comprehensive testing and validation procedures and documentation.
Qualification and acceptance testing of complex aerospace mechanisms.
Knowledge of capacity modeling, process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma, and value stream mapping.
Experience transitioning development processes to rate production.
Additional Requirements
Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
