Housing Specialist

to support survivors of domestic violence on their path to long-term stability and self-sufficiency through our Rapid Rehousing program.

Who We Are BHcare is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic that provides comprehensive services for individuals and families facing mental health, substance use, and domestic violence challenges. Our housing services are rooted in empowerment, trauma-informed care, and community collaboration.

What You'll Do As a Housing Specialist, you'll provide direct support to participants transitioning from crisis to stability by: • Conducting coordinated intakes and assessments to determine housing eligibility under HUD and CT DOH guidelines • Developing survivor-centered housing plans and supporting participants in reaching their goals • Teaching life skills such as budgeting, financial literacy, and job-readiness • Assisting with locating housing, navigating leases, landlord mediation, and applying for long-term subsidies • Conducting monthly home or community visits to offer continued support • Collaborating with landlords, community partners, and other housing providers to build a network of support • Submitting time-sensitive requests for rental assistance and maintaining communication with those on the RRH waitlist

Qualifications

Must be able to attend required training during first week of employment, which is Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bachelor's Degree required; Two years Advocacy and/or direct service experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a community-based setting preferred; Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) reading writing and speaking preferred; Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients to provide crisis intervention, case management, resource and referral supports. Knowledge of community resources Comprehensive working knowledge of safety planning and survivor-centered advocacy as it relates to domestic violence survivors Ability to maintain service records, complete records accurately and submit in a timely fashion in accordance with CCADV Program Standards. Willingness to learn how to navigate multiple systems including housing, health, employment, substance use disorder treatment and government benefits. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others, within the DV system and with outside providers, to develop creative solutions to difficult challenges. Must have working knowledge of computer applications, and if applicable ability to navigate through electronic health record and program specific applications. Must have and maintain a valid CT driver's license if relocated to CT as a state resident more than 30 days ago. Also, must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organization's auto insurance plan.

Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/ First Aid certification.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the certified domestic violence counselor per CGS 52-146k before providing direct service to clients, followed with six-hour recertification yearly.
