New Camaldoli Hermitage is a monastic community located in Big Sur, California, dedicated to a life of prayer, contemplation, and hospitality. Our spiritual commitment guides all our activities, and we seek a leader who shares and respects this mission. The General Manager (GM) leads the daily administrative and business operations of the Hermitage, ensuring alignment with the financial, commercial, and staffing goals of the monastic community. Reporting directly to the Prior (Spiritual leader of the community) and the Domestic Council, the GM plays a key role in strategic planning, operational coordination, and team leadership. Key Responsibilities: General Operations: ·Oversee hospitality services and guest experience. ·Supervise maintenance of buildings, grounds, and vehicle fleet. ·Manage kitchen operations in collaboration with the Kitchen Master. ·Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management and scheduling of operational and administrative staff. ·Determine appropriate staffing levels, including working hours and pay rates, to ensure operational efficiency and budget compliance. Administrative Oversight: ·Ensure effective use of reservation systems and internal processes. ·Manage inventory, vendors, and operational documentation. Strategic Collaboration: ·Work closely with the Business & Financial Manager, Commercial Operations Manager, Donor Relations Manager, and Program Director. ·Participate in management team meetings, Domestic Council meetings, and advisory board sessions. External Relations & Emergency Management: ·Serve as liaison with government agencies and local media. ·Lead emergency preparedness and response efforts, including evacuations and security protocols. Position Conditions: ·On-site presence required. ·Generous housing provision available if needed. ·Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s preferred). ·5+ years of experience in operational or general management. ·Demonstrated experience leading and supervising diverse teams of people. ·Familiarity with nonprofit or religious organizations is a plus.
