  • Summary
  • 8-week paid hands-on training in specified trade.
  • Welds assembly plating according to NASSCO and Navy standards.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Welds fabricated components, understanding welding characteristics of metals.
  • Progresses to Journeyman level based on skill after training.

  • Essential Job Tasks
  • Welding various metals and shapes, including pipe, tanks, structural forms, and sheet metal, not involving high pressure.
  • Positioning parts for vessel, tank, or structural assembly welding.
  • Using carbon electrodes for cutting, shaping, and grooving metal.
  • Preparing work area for welding, including cleaning and preheating.
  • Inspecting weld sizes and quality.
  • Knowledge of different metals, alloys, electrodes, and welding procedures.
  • Participating in safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.
  • Learning to weld in multiple positions.
  • Completing NASSCO training successfully.
  • Performing related tasks as assigned.

  • Qualification Standards
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Mechanical and technical skills for equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to work from procedures and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Navy and commercial standards helpful.
  • Effective communication in English.
  • At least two years of stable employment or training.

  • Physical/Mental Involvement
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders, work in confined spaces, work independently.
  • Problem-solving skills, good math and measurement understanding.
  • Correctable 20/20 vision, color vision.
  • Flexible, observant, safety-conscious, able to work at heights and shifts.
  • Background in construction or manufacturing preferred.

  • Environmental Factors
  • Exposure to fumes, dust, gases, varying climates, and noise.

  • Pay Scale
    $19.00/hour
    This pay range reflects a reasonable estimate considering skills and experience. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k), paid holidays and time off, wellness programs, and onsite health services.
