The City of Largo Fire Department is accepting applications for State of Florida Certified Paramedic that are also Pinellas County Certification (or Provisional) Paramedics residing in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Pasco Counties. In the event we are unable to secure applicants as State of Florida Certified Paramedics with Pinellas County Certification (or Provisional) Paramedic's not residing in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Pasco Counties, other State of Florida Paramedic candidates can be considered. In this position you will be performing basic life support initially on their own at the scene of an emergency. Performs advanced life support functions under the direction of a licensed physician. (Annual Hours = 2,184) In the event that we are unable to fill these positions with other State of Florida Paramedics, candidates currently in an approved State of Florida Paramedic program that will graduate before the hiring date of this posting, will be considered. Performs advanced life support functions such as defibrillate a pulseless, non-breathing patient; administer intravenous electrolyte, endotracheal intubation; performs esophageal intubation Administers certain drugs as prescribed in standing orders or direct orders from a medical director or a medical doctor, subject to the provisions of EMS rules Team Skills

Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required College and related work experience preferred Possession of a valid Class E Florida Driver's License required Have and maintain a Florida State Paramedic Certificate Successful completion of psychological examination required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to readily acquire a knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City Some mechanical aptitude required Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Environment: 50% inside a climate-controlled building; 50% outside which may include driving. Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: the ability to sit, stand or walk for undetermined periods of time. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, fine manipulations, grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 75 pounds, with crawling, kneeling, repetitive motion, and lifting/carrying of objects weighing 75 pounds and over. All employees must meet the NFPA 1582 medical/physical standards. Must be tobacco/smoke free for a minimum of one (1) year prior to hire and thereafter. Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, and the proper equipment operation. Speaking: Professionally communicates orally with others in person and on the telephone. Seeing: Ability to see and read computer monitor screens, operate a vehicle, and read normal and fine print. In compliance with NFPA 1582 medical/physical standards. Driving Requirements: The work requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Class E Driver's License. Technology: The work requires ability to operate telephones, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators, and all associated software. The work also requires proficiency with computer hardware and software programs including word, spreadsheet and/or database applications, internet applications, and database management. Other Machines: The work requires the ability to operate the following machines: fire apparatus, fire pumps, chainsaws, ventilation fans, lighting devices, and emergency medical equipment.
