Senior Opto-Mechanical QPU Engineer

The Hardware Engineering Organization at QuEra Computing is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Opto-Mechanical QPU Engineer to serve as an individual contributor in building state-of-the-art, manufacturable, and deployable neutral atom quantum computers. The team plays a crucial role in advancing the company's technology and translating scientific breakthroughs into products for customers. The ideal candidate will have graduate-level education in engineering or applied physics, along with industry experience in an enterprise engineering environment. They should possess a deep understanding of engineering and science areas such as optics, mechanics, heat transfer, RF systems, electronics, and product design, complemented by practical engineering experience. Candidates with a physics degree may be considered if they have sufficient professional experience beyond academia to operate independently as a senior engineer. Key Job Responsibilities
Design components, modules, and subsystems supporting QuEra’s neutral atom computers throughout the development lifecycle (R&D, productization, maintenance). Supervise system-level design and oversee the machine building process. Promote and implement engineering best practices at QuEra. Collaborate with R&D/science teams to enable cutting-edge research and translate scientific advances into products. Troubleshoot technical issues at headquarters and customer sites (with support team coordination). Lead machine installation and deployment at customer locations, with limited travel. Mentor and support junior engineers. Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in engineering, applied physics, or a related field (M.S. considered in exceptional cases). 5-10 years of industry experience in enterprise engineering environments. Significant experience in two or more optics design areas, such as free-space, fiber, or lens design. Strong understanding of heat transfer, electromagnetics, systems engineering, precision design, electronics, RF systems, etc. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in commercial product development and off-site deployment. Experience designing, building, and maintaining complex systems. Experience working with lasers. Proficiency with CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks) in a PDM/PLM environment.
