Sleep Technologist
Provides treatment, management, diagnostic testing, control, education, and care of patients with sleep and wake disorders. Analyzes, monitors, and records physiologic data during sleep and wakefulness to assist in the treatment of disorders, syndromes, and dysfunctions that are sleep-related, manifest during sleep, or disrupt normal sleep activities. Provides therapeutic and diagnostic use of oxygen, the use of positive airway pressure including continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and bilevel modalities, adaptive servoventilation, and maintenance of nasal and oral airways that do not extend into the trachea. Education: Meets Medical Board of California requirements for PSGT licensees or meets Respiratory Care Board of California requirements for respiratory care practitioner program for RCP licensees Certification & Licensure: BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider PSGT-Polysomnographic Technologist from Medical Board of California OR RCP-Respiratory Care Practitioner Typical Experience: 2 years of recent experience. Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of cardio respiratory function, sleep physiology and neurology. Understanding of physics, medical electronics, in-depth medical terminology, with emphasis on pulmonology, neurology, and sleep related pharmacology; and psychological processes related to sleep/wake disturbances. Basic computer skills are essential for record analysis. Proven verbal and written skills. Ability to perform Polysomnographic studies.
