Job Description Job Title: Polysomnographic Technologist

Experience: Minimum of 1 year
License: CA Polysomnographic Technologist or CA Respiratory Care Practitioner license
Certifications: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialist (RRT-SDS) or Certified Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialist (CRT-SDS)
Must-Have: BLS certification
Description:
Reviews patient's medical history, allergies, current medications, and patient questionnaire.
Explains procedures to the patient before, during, and after the sleep study.
Performs patient set-up by attaching electrodes and monitors according to accepted standards.
Monitors the patient via video for any unusual sleep behaviors.
Records observations of the patient throughout the sleep study at specific time intervals and as appropriate.
Ensures signals are received on the computer and all monitors are recording data throughout the sleep study.
Recognizes normal and abnormal sleep patterns.
Correctly interprets physiological tracings and quickly intervenes in emergency situations.
Knowledgeable of protocols for CPAP, BIPAP, and oxygen therapy.
Illustrates and documents various aspects of the sleep study according to established guidelines and generates an accurate report by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of healthcare errors.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of techniques and treatment modalities performed on patients of varying ages, including pediatric through geriatric.
Maintains and operates all sleep lab equipment safely and correctly.
Inspects and tests sleep lab equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently.
Gathers artifact-free polysomnographic data.
Troubleshoots any artifacts and provides corrections.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
Attends staff meetings annually and reads and returns all monthly meeting minutes.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served.
Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age-specific needs.
Able to effectively communicate and care for patients and families as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical activity requirements include standing, walking, sitting, and reaching.
Lifts weights up to 25 pounds occasionally.
May encounter risks of electrical shock and exposure to latex.
