Job Number: P149656 Posting Date: May 20, 2025 Primary Location: West Side-1624 West 19th Street (Peter Cooper Dual Lang Acad) Overtime Status: Non-exempt Job Description Ed Sign Language Interpreter This position is responsible for providing sign language interpretation services to students and staff at Peter Cooper Dual Language Academy. The interpreter will facilitate communication between English-speaking and Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, ensuring that all students have equal access to educational opportunities and resources. This role requires a high level of proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to adapt to a diverse student population. Responsibilities include: Delivering accurate and effective sign language interpretation during classroom instruction, meetings, and events. Collaborating with teachers and staff to develop and implement communication strategies that support the educational needs of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. Maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality regarding student and staff information. Participating in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in sign language interpretation and Deaf education. Qualifications: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals in an educational setting preferred. Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
