We're seeking a Senior Platform/DevOps Engineer to drive automation-at-scale and lead Kubernetes enablement across Walgreens' cloud ecosystem. This role will design and deliver automation capabilities while acting as a Kubernetes SME, helping teams operationalize workloads efficiently. You will play a key role in advancing platform engineering principles through Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and reusable automation frameworksenabling self-service, standardization, and reduced toil for product teams. You'll work closely with engineering, security, and cloud operations teams to design resilient, codified, and policy-driven platforms that scale across diverse environments. Key Responsibilities
Architect and implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep) to automate provisioning and configuration of Azure resources Design and maintain self-service automation frameworks that empower teams to deploy applications and infrastructure consistently across environments Act as Kubernetes SME, supporting scalable, secure, and automated AKS clusters with GitOps-driven workflows (ArgoCD or Flux) Optimize AKS workload deployment with Helm, pod scheduling strategies, resource quotas, and multi-tenant security boundaries Integrate and enforce Policy as Code using OPA/Gatekeeper and Azure Policy to maintain governance and compliance posture Collaborate across teams to codify CI/CD pipelines and reduce drift through declarative deployments and automation-first approaches Lead initiatives to implement Observability as Code using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana; standardize telemetry collection across platforms Drive adoption of Configuration as Code (Ansible/Chef/Puppet) to manage baseline consistency and state enforcement Proactively identify platform performance, reliability, or security issues and resolve them through repeatable automation Coach and mentor engineers, championing platform best practices and a "you build it, you run it" culture About Walgreens Founded in 1901, Walgreens has a storied heritage of caring for communities for generations and proudly serves nearly 9 million customers and patients each day across its approximately 8,500 stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and leading omni channel platforms. Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or related field Experience writing code for moderate to complex online applications, microservices or mobile applications or deployment automation Experience with programming languages for online applications, microservices or mobile applications or deployment automation Experience designing/building moderately complex applications Experience writing automated test scripts Experience creating coding/scripting solutions to fix complex problems/issues Experience engaging at the executive level At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace. At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership. Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state). Preferred Qualifications
8+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Automation roles, with strong Azure expertise Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes and AKS, including Helm, GitOps, autoscaling, and workload hardening Proven success designing and operationalizing automation-as-a-service models Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Bicep Fluency in automation scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash) Expertise in CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and secure delivery pipelines Demonstrated knowledge of Policy as Code, RBAC enforcement, and secure workload isolation Familiarity with Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry) and Logging as Code Strong background in Configuration as Code and secure baseline enforcement (e.g., Ansible, Chef) Passion for simplifying complexity, reducing toil, and delivering scalable platforms through code We will consider employment of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
