The Pulmonary Function Therapist assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the treatment, care and needs of an assigned group of patients. Provides quality assurance and routine maintenance of pulmonary function testing equipment and directs specialized measurements of cardiopulmonary function. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The value you'll bring to the team: Performs and records, according to policy, quality control measurements on all pulmonary function testing equipment on a monthly basis, when equipment is repaired or when there is any question of accuracy. Recognizes and reports quality control (Q/C) that are outside of standard deviation range and initiates immediate corrective action. Runs and records monthly proficiency testing on all pulmonary function testing equipment. Documents all occurrences of maintenance or repair work in the appropriate logs of pulmonary function equipment. Runs calibration check, and a calibration if necessary, every thirty days, each time repair work is done, or when there is any question of the accuracy of all pulmonary function testing equipment. Prepares or assists with the preparation of Q/C records and documents. Performs and documents lab calibration verification studies. Changes spirometry circuit between each patient and stores dirty equipment in appropriate container to be transported Respiratory Care. Cleans portable spirometry care with disinfectant at the end of the day. Cleans and disinfects patient transport equipment and test area at the end of the day. Cleans and decontaminates all equipment used during exercise testing. Properly utilizes and maintains spirometers and diffusion study equipment by replacing expendable supplies when they are used up and manipulates any computer and/or interface devices correctly. Ensures uninterrupted availability of supplies to the pulmonary laboratory by inventory, record keeping, and restocking when supplies are low and/or on weekly basis. Schedules pulmonary diagnostic testing. Accurately and efficiently performs and reports active technique spirometric testing, pre- / post- bronchodilator testing, diffusion capacity measurement, plethysmographic measurement, helium dilution testing, nitrogen washout testing, arterial blood gases (ABGs), trend oximetry measurements as ordered by physician. Discusses and clarifies test results with ordering providers. Transports or arranges transport for patient to lab in the most efficient and timely manner.
