The board desires candidates that have proven ability and demonstrated accomplishments for the following position criteria: Visionary:

A courageous leader who will confidently lead by building on the successes of Duarte Unified School District to continuously impact positive change and growth. The leader is an advocate for Duarte USD and promotes vision for the district and the successes within Duarte USD. An individual that is able to identify and guide talent, mentor and empower others by successfully inspiring and motivating them to achieve at high levels. They will always focus on the core; our classrooms, by crafting a direction that inspires and empowers our classroom productivity and performance for all our students and our community. An instructional leader:

Has a proven track record of advancing student achievement. The leader must have the ability to develop Duarte Unified School District that focuses on student excellence and achievement. Furthermore, they are committed to student achievement as integral to the culture of the district and each school. The next superintendent must be an instructional leader who focuses on the “whole child” and is knowledgeable and experienced in the best practices to close “the achievement gap”. Duarte Unified School District is looking for a leader that leads from the front, is creative and builds a 21st century learning and working environment. The leader is also able to assess the quality of implementation and the ability to pivot in a timely manner when actions are not leading to desired results. A leader who advocates for the proper implementation of educational technology into the classroom and beyond. A strategic business manager

who demonstrates vision, operational expertise and the ability to implement long-range educational and fiscal plans to benefit students and staff. A strong team builder who appropriately holds themselves and others accountable, empowers other leaders, and develops their knowledge and skills. They delegate tasks and responsibilities, build leadership and promotional opportunities from within, and provide professional development and guidance for all staff. Ensures that there are systems of evaluation for self and all employees that provide professional feedback and accountability on a regular basis. A person who is an influential problem solver in the arenas of fiscal management, school bonds, special education, collective bargaining, facilities, and other operational functions of the District. Transparent & Integrity:

A leader who possesses integrity and a strong moral compass. Demonstrates honesty and fairness, respectful of others, serves as a role model for school administrators, faculty, staff, and students. The superintendent must be a team builder and able to bring people together in unity, while establishing trust. They will build inclusive, respectful relationships with the Board, administration, staff, students, and community. Specifically, the superintendent must be skilled at keeping the Board informed in a timely manner, understand the role of the Board, and engage them in collaborative decision-making and other efforts that continually strengthen the governance team. Collaborator:

An inspiring, motivating, self-starter that is a community centered collaborative leader. The superintendent will be committed to being visible in the schools and engaged with the community in a meaningful and discernible way. A person who can competently engage in diverse cultures, proactively reach out for different perspectives and opinions, and is skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution. Duarte Unified School District’s next Superintendent will invite and encourage the community to be involved with the schools and likewise model the District’s involvement through participation in community events and organization. Salary Range:
