The Director, Compensation & Benefits manages, administers, makes strategic recommendations, develops and executes Benevis’ total rewards programs—including compensation, health & welfare, retirement, and leave management. This role is responsible for ensuring programs are equitable, competitive, cost-effective, and fully compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. The Director partners cross-functionally to support workforce planning, compensation decisions, team member experience, and compliance.

Responsibilities

Compensation Leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of compensation structures, including base pay, short-term incentives, and job architecture across the enterprise. Manages the annual merit, bonus, and promotional increase cycles—including budgeting, modeling, communications, and leadership support. Research market trends, conduct benchmarking analyses, and maintain competitive salary ranges and pay structures. Lead the development, evaluation, and maintenance of job descriptions and classifications in partnership with HRBPs. Partner with Talent Acquisition and HRBPs to ensure fair, consistent, and competitive compensation practices for offers, promotions, and internal mobility. Strives to continuously improve compensation systems and tools; ensure accurate compensation reporting and analytics. Provide compensation support and integration guidance to leadership. Serve as the key liaison to Finance and Legal for budgeting, equity reviews, compliance, and compensation-related audits. Benefits Oversees the planning, design, administration, and compliance of all health and welfare benefits, wellness programs, voluntary benefits, and retirement plans. Leads annual benefits planning and open enrollment, including vendor selection, plan design, employee communication, and implementation. Monitors benefit utilization, cost trends, and employee satisfaction to drive plan effectiveness, enhancements and cost-effective program decisions. Ensures accurate and timely benefits invoicing and financial reporting; maintains benefit plan budgets/projections in partnership with Finance. Collaborates with Payroll on deduction accuracy and reconciliation; complete quarterly audits of employee contributions. Leads benefit compliance efforts and ensure timely filings (Form 5500, 1094-C/1095-C, nondiscrimination testing, etc.). Leave Management Provides oversight of leave administration, including FMLA, STD, LTD, parental leave, and state-specific programs. Ensures leave processes are efficient, compliant, and well-communicated to team members and managers. Team Member & Management Communications Educates team members, managers, and HR team members on total rewards programs through effective communication, training, and support. Conducts team member satisfaction surveys and makes program adjustments based on feedback and benchmarking. Ensures timely and consistent delivery of service and support across compensation and benefits inquiries .

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. 8+ years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits; 3+ years in a leadership or people management role. Experience in multi-state, hourly and salaried workforce environments required. Experience managing vendor relationships, implementing HR technologies, and leading annual merit and benefits cycles. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), or related credentials preferred. Skills & Competencies Deep knowledge of compensation and benefits principles and regulations, including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and wage and hour laws. Strong analytical, modeling, and financial skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas). Ability to interpret and communicate complex data and regulatory requirements to stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence and advise senior leaders and cross-functional partners. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
