We are seeking a forward-thinking, relationship-oriented Physician-Based Coding Director to lead and empower a large, dynamic coding team. This leader will be responsible for overseeing operations across all specialties within our PO (Professional Office) setting, including daily engagement with new physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). This is a high-impact role requiring strategic decision-making, operational oversight, and strong team-building capabilities.
Team Structure:
Direct Reports: 3 Managers
Coding Staff: ~85 team members
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic oversight and operational direction for physician-based coding across all specialties
Lead, mentor, and empower 3 coding managers to run their day-to-day operations autonomously
Foster a supportive, engaging culture across coding teams, focusing on collaboration, performance, and growth
Make timely, informed decisionsespecially related to profee codingwith minimal hand-holding
Establish trust and rapport through weekly meetings with managers and consistent visibility with staff
Attend and participate in monthly director meetings with senior leadership
Partner with management to create and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting systems
Identify and implement automation and process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency
Collaborate with new providers and APPs as needed for coding support and education
Participate in organizational leadership retreats and other key engagements

Building strong, consistent relationships with managers, supervisors, and staff
Empowering managers with the tools and trust to lead effectively, reducing burnout
Displaying confidence in independent decision-making and operational ownership
Driving innovation through automation and streamlined workflows
Demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving and accountability
Engaging meaningfully with organizational culture and in-person opportunities
In-office presence 3 days a week
Director is expected to be present and participatory in leadership events and team-wide initiatives
Base Salary: $114,000 $194,000 (commensurate with experience)
Annual Management Bonus: Based on organizational performance

Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Proven minimum of 2 years experience leading large, multi-layered coding teams (preferably profee/physician-based)
8 years of Physician-based coding experience
Well versed in EMR system Epic
Bachelor's Degree requirement
Must obtain one of the following certifications: CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT
