The Assistant Director will assist the Director of Advising and Retention Center in the management of the department. The Assistant Director will assist in the analysis of the effectiveness of advising and retention initiatives. The Assistant Director will assist with developing and implementing assigned retention initiatives. Additionally, they will act as an academic advisor to an assigned group of students and regularly provide advising services to students who come to the Advising & Retention Center. Description
The Assistant Director will assist the Director of Advising and Retention Center in the management of the department. The Assistant Director will assist in the analysis of the effectiveness of advising and retention initiatives. The Assistant Director will assist with developing and implementing assigned retention initiatives. Additionally, they will act as an academic advisor to an assigned group of students and regularly provide advising services to students who come to the Advising & Retention Center.
Additionally, the Assistant Director will serve as the lead coordinator for transfer counselor visits. The following are indicative of the qualifications, duties and responsibilities, and physical demands that fall within this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business or related field Experience as an Academic Advisor in a college or university setting A minimum of two years of experience working with students in an educational setting Experience working with a Student Information System
Essential Duties And Responsiblities
Ensure the delivery of accurate, relevant, and timely information to students concerning the culture of higher education, academic standards and expectations, and program options and requirements. Coordinate retention initiatives, including strategies, data collection, analysis, and reporting outcomes. Assist the Director of Advising with designing and implementing a comprehensive retention training program for all staff that are involved in advising students. Utilize various technologies to promote the program. Serve as an assigned academic advisor to a designated student group and provide academic advising services to students through walk-ins and appointments on a regular basis. Collaborate with the IT department to develop reports needed to manage the retention process and to report on retention and advising outcomes. Participate in meetings and serve on committees as required and function as an advocate for advising within the college community. Other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Advising and Retention Center.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Self-motivated with the ability to function productively and independently; Work as part of a team Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive working relationships; Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write reports using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top administration, the public, students, and/or boards of directors. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, with proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Communicate with others in person, phone, and via email Frequently sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Must have ability to talk, walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, kneel, and squat Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus
