Position Summary This role is within the Non-Detained Kids team, focusing on representing children in the care of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) before immigration courts and USCIS. Responsibilities include legal representation before USCIS, ICE, and the Immigration Court, and potentially representing parents or guardians in family court for SIJS petitions. The attorney will conduct trauma-informed interviews with minors and their families, advocate before agencies, and support pro bono attorneys. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct intake interviews, gather relevant facts, assess eligibility, and recommend referrals. Develop case strategies and prepare for hearings. Draft legal documents, negotiate, and present evidence. Stay updated on immigration laws and policies. Build relationships with USCIS, government, and community organizations. Maintain accurate client records and prepare reports. Participate in and potentially lead training sessions. Contribute to special projects and advocacy efforts. Identify legal and social trends, recommend solutions. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) and at least one year of legal or social services experience. Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written). Strong legal reading and writing skills. Ability to draft reports and communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Experience with low-income immigrants, children, or survivors of violence preferred. Physical and Other Requirements Ability to remain stationary for periods and operate office equipment.
